Blood meal as a deer repellent

I purchased a large quantity of Espoma blood meal to spread around my yard to deter deer and rabbits. I will also add it to my homemade "stinky stuff" along with eggs, garlic, and pepper blended in water, to slosh around when the tulips are coming up. Blood meal is the main ingredient in some commercial deterrent sprays but spraying it on plants makes them very ugly, so I just sprinkle it all around the beds and borders. I think it helps.
